Request for Tariff Relief on Certain Polypropylene Staple Fibres for use in the manufacture of staple fibre yarn.

The Department of Finance is seeking members’ views on a request that the Department has received for tariff relief on certain polypropylene staple fibres for use in the manufacture of staple fibre yarn. The proposed tariff item and wording read as follows:

5503.40.10 --- Solely of polypropylene staple fibres, measuring 3.3 decitex or less, of a length exceeding 31 mm but not exceeding 60 mm, for use in the manufacture of staple fibre yarn

This product is currently classified under tariff item No. 5503.40.00 and is dutiable at 5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) tariff.
