Notice to Importers No. 675 -- Items 94 and 95 – Broiler Hatching Eggs and Chicks for Chicken Production

This Notice informs importers of the practices respecting the administration of the TRQ for broiler hatching eggs and chicks for chicken production, and should be read with the Import Allocation Regulations and Import Permit Regulations, and invites applications for quota shares of the Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick TRQ available for allocation for the period 1 January to 31 December 2005.

This Notice should be read in conjunction with the Notice to Importers No. 611 of 8 December 2000, which sets out the Minister’s policies and practice concerning supplemental imports of these products.

NOTE: The base period for total number of chicks hatched in connection with an application for quota for 2005 has been changed from that of previous years. For applicants who were 2004 allocation holders and continue to be active as a hatchery in 2005, the relevant base period is 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2003. New applicants (ie those who were not yet in operation during the entire period from 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2003) may base their application on the 12 month period from 1 October 2003 to 30 September 2004.

NOTE: Applicants that received an import allocation in 2004 do not have to provide supporting information with their application regarding the total number of chicks hatched for chicken meat production for the period 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2003. Note: Applicants using the more recent base period must provide supporting information (as described in Section 8.2) regarding the total number of chicks hatched for chicken meat production for the period 1 October 2003 to 30 September 2004.
