Customs symposium to emphasize strategy

How to develop a comprehensive national and international strategy for cargo security will be the main topic next week at the fifth trade symposium sponsored by Customs and Border Protection.

Importers, carriers, and intermediaries will hear from a mix of industry leaders, Customs and Department of Homeland Security officials in three panel discussions. Panelists will talk about the need to implement a national cargo-security strategy, and extend security efforts elsewhere in the world.

Among the speakers are … Customs Commissioner Robert C. Bonner, and Michel Danet, secretary general of the World Customs Organization.

Other conference sessions will cover contingency planning and the Automated Commercial Environment.

The conference will take place Jan. 12-14 at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington. …
