U.S. could host NAFTA summit: Report

The following article is excerpted from the 19 January 2005 edition of “The Journal of Commerce”.

President Bush's renewed efforts to improve foreign relations in his second term may include hosting a meeting this year focused on improving trade ties with NAFTA partners Mexico and Canada.

The three North American Free Trade Agreement members are considering holding a summit to coordinate business regulations and ease roadblocks to improve trade.

The summit likely will take place in March or April. The location has not been decided yet.

"The intention will be to focus on things that can be done without legislation in any of the three states (countries)," one U.S. official told Toronto's Globe and Mail. …
