CBP seeks ACE assessment

The following is excerpted from the 21 March 2005 edition of “American Shipper”.

Michael Mullen, U.S. Customs and Border Protection's director of trade relations, is requesting
feedback from importers and brokers who have accounts in the new automated trade processing system about any problems experienced so far and additional functionality they desire.

ACE features accounts that allow companies to pay duties on a monthly basis rather than per entry and generate reports about their national import activity.

… Mullen said he wanted the most up-to-date information to guide U.S. Customs’ … development of the Automated Commercial Environment and allow for necessary corrections.

The Trade Support Network, comprising industry representatives tasked with developing industry requirements for the Automated Commercial Environment computer system, has created its own Web site, http://www.acetransition.net, to inform the trade community about program developments.

ACE will eventually replace the Automated Commercial System currently in use to process imports.

The Web site, which is not affiliated with government Web sites on ACE, will include interactive message boards to allow users to share information.
