Application of CN seals at Intermodal Terminals

The following message is from CN’s Customer Support Centre.

Per CNR tariffs 7589 and 9100, the shipper is responsible for supplying, applying and reporting a seal for any loaded Intermodal shipment, prior to ingating of that shipment. Failure to seal a loaded shipment may impact on liability of the product. Until recently there have been some CN terminals that have applied a CN seal at in-gate, in addition to the customer's own seal if applied. Effective June 15, 2005, this process will be eliminated and CN will begin enforcing the tariff guidelines for seal application as summarized above (please see www.cn.ca for a complete version of tariffs 7589 and 9100). For shipments where CN performs pick up and delivery at origin, no load will be picked up unless a seal is in place and properly documented on the Bill of Lading.
