Temporary Leader for US Customs and Border Protection

US Customs and Border Protection, currently Deputy Commissioner of CBP, will act as Commissioner until a permanent replacement for Robert Bonner is named. Judge Bonner will resign as Commissioner today.

Ms. Spero has been the Deputy Commissioner since April, 2004. Previously, she had responsibility for the transition team that amalgamated the former Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the Animal and Plant Inspection Service into CBP, all the while serving as assistant commissioner for strategic trade.

Ms. Spero assumes her temporary responsibilities on Friday, 25 November.
