Clearance of Airfreights at “Wheels Up”

The following message is from the Electronic Commerce Unit at the CBSA.

The purpose of this message is to clarify the policy of CBSA concerning the clearance of airfreight at “wheels up”. As of December 12, 2005, air carriers will be able to transmit cargo data to the CBSA for ACI air reporting. This will become mandatory as of June 26, 2006. During this six-month implementation window, there will be no change to the current policy allowing RMD submission at "wheels up" for FEDEX and Air Canada only. Effective June 26, 2006 when all air carriers will be required to be compliant with ACI Air reporting requirements, the importer/broker may present RMD at "wheels up" for all air cargo.
