President, Secretary Swear-In New CBP Commissioner

The following is excerpted from a news release issued by US Customs and Border Protection on 6 June 2006.

President George W. Bush witnessed the swearing-in of new CBP Commissioner W. Ralph Basham in Artesia, N.M. Tuesday morning. Commissioner Basham recited the oath of office from Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on the grounds of the Border Patrol Academy before approximately 1,000 trainees and staff.

… The President said he has gotten to know Commissioner Basham well after previously appointing him to head the Secret Service. “He's a decent man,” Bush said about Commissioner Basham. “I trust him deeply, and he's going to be a superb leader for Customs and Border Protection.”…
