Message from CPR re SS&D Changes

The following message is from CPR..

Effective June 1, 2007 we will initiate amendments to the supplemental services provisions in CP tariffs 6666 and 8888. These amendments are intended to foster efficiency in work beyond the basic movement of freight while making our tariff publications easier to read and understand.

CP recognizes the importance of constantly improving the consistency and reliability of our rail service including the efficient movement of freight between terminals, customer facilities and our rail yards. Performing additional work beyond the basic movement of freight such as extra switching, re-handling a car that does not have proper billing, or changing the destination of a car already en-route negatively impacts our ability to deliver consistent and reliable rail service to our customers.

The following items have been amended for increased clarity, simplicity of rate structure, and reasonable recovery of costs incurred in performing the required work:

a.. Railcars released without adequate shipping instructions (no-bills)
b.. Railcars loaded over their weight limit (overweight cars)
c.. Changing railcar destination once released and moving (diversions)
    d.. Additional switching of railcars
e.. Changes or re-work of current shipment instructions/documents
f.. Scaling and/or weighing of railcars

For most other items a general rate increase of approximately 2% has been applied, the first such increase since 2004.

With these amendments, we are on track to improve operational efficiency and to realize our vision of becoming the safest, most fluid railroad in North America.

This year we are reviewing all of our supplemental services tariff publications to make them easier to understand, with a focus on execution excellence. These amendments will be shared in phases for you to have an opportunity to integrate them into your processes. For customers who rarely require supplemental services, the impact of these amendments will be negligible.
