Message from CN re Containerized Metal Coils
 
On Saturday May 12th, 2007, a serious incident involving a shipment of containerized metal coils was narrowly avoided.
 
Upon investigation, it was determined that a number of mandatory requirements for the safe handling of containerized metal coils were not met, including:
 
1.        Excessive weight of coils;
2.        Excessive age of containers;
3.        Improper commodity information on bill of lading.
 
It is imperative that all shippers understand and comply with the requirements of CN Tariff 7589 Item 420 or CN Tariff 9100 Item 3015 in order to ensure a safe movement environment for you the shipper, CN employees, and the general public.
 
As a reminder, a `Coiled Metal Product Letter of Agreement` must be executed and filed with CN. The Intermodal Coiled Metal Product Policy and the Letter of Agreement can be found at:
