Amendments to the Energy Efficiency Regulations, 2016

Natural Resources Canada intends to launch Amendments 18 and 19 to the Energy Efficiency Regulations to update or add energy efficiency or testing standards for currently regulated and new products. Consideration is given to the following products listed below for which technical bulletins have been released.

Updating Currently Regulated Products

  • Refrigerators
  • Combination refrigerator-freezers
  • Freezers
  • Clothes washers
  • Integrated clothes washer-dryers
  • Clothes dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Portable air conditioners
  • Electric water heaters
  • Room air conditioners
  • Gas-fired water heaters
  • Oil-fired water heaters
  • Ice makers (automatic commercial)
  • Large air conditioners and heat pumps
  • General service lamps
  • General service fluorescent lamps
  • Metal halide lamp ballasts
  • Central air conditioners and central heat pumps (3-phase)

Adding New Products

  • Clothes dryers (vented gas)
  • Pool pumps
  • Showerheads
  • Faucets
  • Air compressors
  • Line-voltage thermostats

Updates that were made to the above list of products since it was initially posted in April 2022:

  1. Battery chargers, external power supplies, and uninterruptible power supplies were removed in June 2022. Consideration will be given to these products in subsequent amendments based on developments in the United States
  2. Central air conditioners and central heat pumps (3-phase) have been added to the forward regulatory plan in June 2022.
