U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted to its Web site a document outlining several scenarios in which the Document Image System may be used.
The DIS is a key step in the development of the International Trade Data System, which seeks to establish a single window for the submission of trade information to federal agencies, and allows for faster and more efficient cargo review and release by CBP and participating government agencies. CBP is currently pilot testing the DIS and made a number of changes as of July 23, including making more PGA forms eligible for electronic submission via the DIS, allowing specific Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service forms to be submitted at the time of manifest, and reducing the metadata submission requirements.
The scenarios are available on the CBP website at: http://cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/trade/automated/modernization/whats_new/dis_trade_scenarios.ctt/dis_trade_scenarios.pdf.
