CBSA Message (EDI14-043) - Quebec Civic Holiday

The following is information concerning this year's civic holiday in Québec on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.  For all clients, overnight reports will run the evenings of Monday, June 23, 2014 and Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

Daily notices/statements covering entry of data Monday, June 23, 2014 will be generated with a statement date of Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in the province of Quebec. In all other provinces, the K84 statements will be dated Tuesday, June 24, 2014. These entries are payable on the June monthly K84 statement.

Goods being released on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in the province of Quebec will be deemed to be released on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Goods released in other provinces will be deemed to be released on June 24, 2014.

In the province of Quebec, clients may receive two (2) different daily notices (for June 23, 2014 and June 24, 2014) with the same statement date of June 25, 2014, which are being combined and are included on the June monthly K84 statement. However, only entry data of June 23, 2014 is payable at the end of June. Consequently, entry data of June 24, 2014 should be manually removed from the June monthly K84 statement and manually added to the July monthly K84 statement.

For the purposes of calculating the accounting period, June 24, 2014 will be considered a holiday for this province and any late accounting penalties will be waived without the client having to submit an application. This applies to transactions that were released between June 17, 2014 and June 24, 2014, and the client’s office of central accounting is in the province of Québec. Any other clients that may have received late accounting penalties due to the holiday should apply for a waiver to the Recourse Directorate at fax # 613-960-5112.  The waiver application must be submitted by July 11, 2014.

Should you have any questions concerning late accounting penalties, please contact Bob Ellah at 613-960-5102.
