CBSA Message (TCC014-035) – Duplicate Cargo Control Numbers – Notice to Carriers

As the entity responsible for issuing cargo control numbers (CCNs) to clients, it is important to ensure you are not issuing duplicate CCNs. When a duplicate CCN is issued, this causes the customs broker to receive a reject message on their release transaction and costs all groups time and money to rectify.

In the instances that  your customs broker informs you that your CCN is rejected as it is a duplicate or is already in history, it is your responsibility to verify your system and retrieve this information. In order for the broker to correct the reject, a new CCN is required.

You may transmit a status query through the Release Notification System (RNS) which can provide this information.   For more information on the status query function, please consult the RNS Electronic Commerce Clients Requirements Document (ECCRD).  If needed, you may request a copy of the RNS ECCRD by email at [email protected].

If you are unable to query through RNS, please contact your service provider or your IT support for assistance.
