CBSA Organizational Changes

CBSA has provided the following message regarding the realignment of Major Projects to the Information, Science and Technology Branch. This realignment should not result in any changes on a daily basis.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is moving forward with the transfer of three directorates within Programs Branch: CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM), eManifest and Major Projects, and People Projects to the Information, Science and Technology Branch (ISTB)  which will take place over the course of the summer with the goal of having the new structure in place by the fall.

This change follows the continuous progress the CBSA is making on implementing the Beyond the Border Action Plan and supports the Agency’s broader agenda on Border Modernization.  Now that many of the Agency’s commitments under Beyond the Border have moved from concept and planning to development and implementation, it makes good business sense to transfer related project areas from the Branch responsible for strategic planning and priority setting to the Branch responsible for project management, information technology and information management, and science and engineering.  This transfer ensures a natural integration towards successful project delivery.

We would like to reassure you that this integration is meant to improve capacity and alignment in the CBSA Service delivery units and will have little impact on the client relationships we all value so highly. Your DG level contacts will remain the same, as will the general makeup of relevant committees. Major Project teams will remain intact and are simply transferring from the Programs Branch to the ISTB. As we move forward, you will be kept informed of any developing changes within both Branches. We are committed and look forward to our continued business relationship.
