CBSA President, John Ossowski, to open Broker-Client Forum

We are very pleased to announce that Mr. John Ossowski, CBSA President will be delivering the opening remarks at our Feb. 28 event, Accessing Ottawa: A Forum for Customs Brokers and their Clients.

Focusing on CBSA’s plans as they relate specifically to commercial trade, Mr. Ossowski will address both the challenges and opportunities ahead for CBSA, its partner federal agencies and Canadian business.

Other highlights include:

  1. Peter Kirby of Fasken LLP will provide us with informative commentary on Canada’s current trade agreement positioning.
  2. CBSA’s Commercial Programs leadership team will discuss the hot topic of eCommerce in Canada, related challenges and the road ahead.
  3. Michael Andrews, National Manager of the Inspection Division at the Canada Food Inspection Agency; Sheila Barth, Director of Admin and Technology Services at Global Affairs Canada, and representatives of Health Canada, Transport, and other departments involved in cross-border trade will address their requirements and how they expect you to meet them.
  4. Lisa Janes, Director General of Border Operations, will shed some light on examinations, seizures and other uncertainties that await goods upon arrival at the border.
  5. Marc Séguin, Director of Revenue Accounting and Reporting will elaborate on the new ARL requirements for payment of duties and taxes.

Registration is now open to multiple representatives of a CSCB customs brokerage firm along with their clients. Please note that every representative of a CSCB customs broker must be accompanied by at least one client.
