CBSA roll-out of Advance Ruling E-Communications Pilot Project for the GTA Region

During the November BCCC meeting, CBSA announced a roll-out of an Advance Ruling E-Communications Pilot Project, which will begin on December 10, 2018 and end on March 31, 2019.

This Pilot Project will be launched following a request from the importing community, through the BCCC Sub-Committee, that the CBSA provide Advance Rulings electronically. The CBSA, through the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Region, will be implementing the Pilot Project. Applicants should continue to send their requests to the regional office in which the majority of the importations will occur.

If successful, the Advance Ruling E-Communications Pilot Project will be rolled-out nationally.

How to apply:

  • Mail your AR request to the GTAR, in accordance with D11-11-3, Advance Rulings for Tariff Classification (451 Talbot Street, 10th Floor, London, ON, N6A 5C9);
  • Include in your request a valid e-mail address as well as confirmation that you agree to communicate with the CBSA via e-mail;
  • An e-mail address and confirmation for electronic communication is required from both the applicant and their agent/representative, if applicable;
  • The CBSA will electronically acknowledge your AR request;
  • Winzip 9 is required to send files to the CBSA;
  • Unique password(s) will be created by the CBSA and provided to the applicant and their agent/representative.

For more information, please refer to the Advance Ruling E-Communications Pilot Project page on the CBSA website.

Should any CSCB member use this method, we’d appreciate hearing about it, including if there is any increase in response time in obtaining an Advance Ruling. Comments may be sent to [email protected].
