AIRS recommendation change for mollusc species susceptible to Perkinsus olseni from French Polynesia to Refused Entry
Effective immediately, the AIRS recommendation for mollusc species susceptible to Perkinsus olseni imported from French Polynesia for the end uses of: Aquarium commercial, Aquarium private, Outdoor holding unit commercial, Outdoor holding unit private, Display in Zoo or public aquarium and Culture will be changed to Refuse Entry.
French Polynesia has recently notified the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) of a reoccurrence of Perkinsus olseni infection in wild populations of molluscs. Perkinsus olseni is a reportable disease in Canada and is considered exotic to Canadian natural waters and aquatic animal populations. To protect Canada’s aquatic animal population this recommendation will remain in place until further notice.
