Changes to regulated area for the North American gypsy moth

Following a pest risk assessment, risk management considerations and comments received during consultation of the Risk Management Document, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated D-98-09: Comprehensive policy to control the spread of the North American gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar in Canada and the United States to:

expand the regulated areas for gypsy moth
make minor changes to address movement of all things other than plants and plant products
update the definition of nursery stock

The regulated area for gypsy moth in Ontario now includes the portion of Algoma District. The entire provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia are now also regulated.

Facilities and establishments that need to be registered to move Christmas trees from regulated areas or to receive non-propagative forest products from regulated areas will have until March 31, 2021 to register with their respective programs. Consult the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) to view the import requirements.
