The following is a 27 September 2013 news release by Canada Border Services Agency.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) advises travellers that the Chief Mountain port of entry will close for the season at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30.
This season, approximately 70,000 travellers entered Canada at Chief Mountain and about 80% of the travellers were tourists to Canada. This season, CBSA officers were key to upholding many of Canada’s laws at Chief Mountain. This included seizing suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, intercepting suspected child pornography and denying entry to a man who had been convicted of vehicular homicide. Officers also assisted a lost hiker who entered Canada accidentally in Waterton Lakes National Park.
Chief Mountain will reopen May 15, 2014. Until then, travellers are advised to enter Canada at Carway, Alberta, the nearest border crossing.
