CN 19-09, Repeal of the United States Surtax Order (Steel and Aluminum) and United States Surtax Order (Other Goods)

As per our earlier message, CBSA has now issued a customs notice regarding the repeal of the surtax. Questions or comments can be sent to Michelle Criger at [email protected].

1. Effective May 19, 2019, the United States Surtax Order (Steel and Aluminum): SOR/2018-152 and the United States Surtax Order (Other Goods): SOR/2018-153 imposing surtax on certain products originating in the United States are repealed. Please note that importers will no longer be required to pay surtax pursuant to the above-referenced orders.

2. For more information on the withdrawal of the surtax orders, within Canada call the Border Information Service at 1-800-461-9999. From outside Canada call 204-983-3500 or 506-636-5064. Long distance charges will apply. Agents are available Monday to Friday (08:00 – 16:00 local time / except holidays). TTY is also available within Canada: 1-866-335-3237.
