With the coming into force of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act on June 20th 2011, the Consumer Product Safety Program (Program) identified the need to establish a risk assessment framework. The purpose of this Risk Assessment Framework is to provide clarity and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on the principles and processes associated with risk assessment in the Program and to support a risk based approach to determine where the Program should focus its attention. This framework provides a foundation for consistent assessment of risks in a manner that is systematic, structured and based on the best available evidence. The Framework establishes a basis for decision-making on human health or safety risks posed by products.
