The following is a message from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Border Commercial Consultative Committee (BCCC) Secretariat, for the Vice-President, Programs Branch.
I am happy to announce that the Customs Controlled Areas (CCA) Regulations were published last Wednesday, June 19 in the Canada Gazette, Part II, Vol. 147, No. 13 (http://canadagazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2013/2013-06-19/html/sor-dors127-eng.php). The implementation of CCAs demonstrates the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) ongoing commitment to further enhance security at Canadian ports of entry. Designated CCAs are being implemented to help the CBSA combat internal conspiracies and prevent criminal activities in locations where there is a likelihood that domestic employees or domestic-origin travellers at Canadian ports of entry come into contact with international travellers or goods not yet cleared by the CBSA.
The CBSA will now begin a three-phased implementation of CCAs at air, marine, rail and land ports of entry. The first phase will see CCAs implemented at Canada’s international airports in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Phase two will include implementation at additional international airports, as well as major marine ports. The third phase of the implementation will designate CCAs at sufferance warehouses, rail, postal, and highway locations across the country.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and for your commitment to this important initiative throughout its development. I look forward to continuing to work with you to implement CCAs in your respective airports. If you have any questions about this initiative, I encourage you to contact Beverly Boyd, Executive Director, Border Programs Directorate, at (613) 957-1595, or by email at [email protected].
