The following is excerpted from a 20 August 2013 news release by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada.
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today highlighted the role the Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) is playing to deepen trade and investment ties between Canada and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the council’s inaugural year. Minister Fast is in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, to represent Canada at the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and to help Canadian companies continue to expand their presence in this fast-growing region.
“Our government’s ambitious pro-trade plan is focused on creating jobs and prosperity for Canadian workers and families by deepening Canada’s ties with the largest, most dynamic and fastest-growing economies in the world,” said Minister Fast. “ASEAN countries offer tremendous opportunities for Canadian businesses to grow their exports, and the CABC is working with the public and private sectors to identify opportunities and make it easier and more profitable for Canadian companies to do business in the region.”
