Information regarding certain labelling and packaging requirements for pre-packaged meat products during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is providing temporary flexibility for non-food safety labelling and packaging requirements for pre-packaged meat products during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pre-packaged meat products remain safe and all food safety requirements, including information regarding allergens, must be met.

This temporary notice supports industry efforts in providing a continued supply of food for consumers without compromising food safety.

The CFIA will exercise enforcement discretion to provide labelling and packaging flexibility when certain conditions are met. Companies must clearly document the reason(s) for using the flexibility.

The notice is effective immediately and will remain in effect for 90 days.
