NAFTA Freight Flows Fall in June

Monthly freight flows between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners fell again in June, according to statistics released Aug. 28 by the Department of Transportation. These statistics show that the value of total U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico by all modes of transportation…

Canada. U.S.-Canada trade totaled $52.7 billion in June, down 3.9% from May and 0.9% from the previous year. The value of freight carried fell for all modes, including 2.5% for truck, 2.4% for rail, 8.9% for pipeline (including a 36.9% decrease for exports), 17.7% for vessel, and 6.8% for air (where a 6.5% increase for exports was offset by a 23.5% decrease for imports). For the year ending in June the value of freight carried increased for vessel (18.9%, including a 60.8% increase for exports) and air (0.1%) but declined for truck (2.0%), rail (2.3%) and pipeline (4.4%)...
