Notice of new National Standard for Barbecue Grill Brushes

In an effort to reduce the risk of injuries to Canadians caused by loose metal bristles from barbecue brushes, Health Canada and the Retail Council of Canada commissioned the CSA Group and Standards Council of Canada to develop a new voluntary safety standard (CSA Z630:19, Barbecue grill brushes) to establish safety requirements for metal bristle barbecue brushes sold in Canada.

The CSA Group launched a 60-day consultation, in June 2019, to consult widely on the proposed standard and have now finalized the new voluntary standard on the design, marking, and use of barbecue grill brushes. The new standard Barbecue Grill Brushes– CSA Z630:19 is now available at CSA’s on-line store: https://store.csagroup.org, by calling 800-463-6727 or emailing: [email protected].

The new standard is also available for on-line viewing at no cost through the CSA Communities of Interest: https://community.csagroup.org/community/health-care-safety-and-accessibility

Health Canada continues to monitor this issue and will take action as required to protect Canadians.
