This is a reminder that two exemptions in the Perfluorooctane Sulfonate and its Salts and Certain Other Compounds Regulations (PFOS Regulations) will expire on May 29, 2013, affecting the metal plating and firefighting sectors:
1. The use, sale and import of a PFOS-based fume suppressant will be prohibited if used in chromium electroplating, chromium anodizing and reverse etching, in electroless nickel-polytetrafluoroethylene plating, and in etching of plastic substrates prior to their metalization.
2. The use of aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) containing PFOS for purposes other than for training or testing will be prohibited.
