Port Metro Vancouver slowly returns to normal

Trucking activity in Port Metro Vancouver will take up to two weeks to return to normal as truckers and companies ramp up their operations, the port said Thursday.

"We're hoping with extended hours of operations that each of our terminals have announced that we'll be able to restore normal trucking operations in the next 8 to 10 working days," said PMV's vice-president of planning and operations, Peter Xotta, after a tentative deal was brokered at the B.C. legislature Wednesday involving several Liberal cabinet ministers and representatives from more than 1,500 union and non-union truckers.

"A variable is the ongoing challenges of the rail supply chain because of the weather conditions in Canada. They impacted rail operations for several weeks and created a buildup of cargo in Vancouver that needs to be recovered from.
