We are pleased to inform you that, on December 24th, 2022, the proposed Regulations amending the Products Containing Mercury Regulations (the proposed Amendments) were published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, for a 75-day comment period.
The main objective of the proposed Amendments is to protect Canadians by lowering the risk of mercury releases into the environment from lamps in Canada. By meeting this objective, the proposed Amendments will also enable Canada to meet its obligations for mercury containing products under the Minamata Convention.
The text of the proposed Amendments along with the associated Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement are available on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act Registry.
Please provide your comments on the proposed Amendments by March 9th, 2023 using the Online Commenting Feature on the Canada Gazette website or by sending them to the Products Division (contact information below). Please indicate “Consultation Mercury Regulations” in the subject of the email.
Following the comment period, Environment and Climate Change Canada will take comments received into consideration in developing the final Amendments. We anticipate that the final Amendments will be published in Canada Gazette, Part II, in 2023.

Il nous fait plaisir de vous informer que le projet de Règlement modifiant le Règlement sur les produits contenant du mercure (les modifications proposées) a été publié le 24 décembre 2022 dans la Gazette du Canada, Partie I, pour une période de commentaires de 75 jours.
Le principal objectif des modifications proposées est de protéger les Canadiens en réduisant le risque de libération du mercure des lampes dans l’environnement au Canada. En atteignant cet objectif, les modifications proposées permettront aussi au Canada de satisfaire à ses obligations relatives aux produits contenant du mercure conformément à la Convention de Minamata.

À la suite de cette période de consultation publique, Environnement et changement climatique Canada tiendra compte des commentaires reçus pour finaliser les modifications proposées. Notre objectif est de publier la version finale du règlement dans la Gazette du Canada, Partie II, en 2023.
