Quebec will spend $82 million by 2017 to help companies export their products to the rest of Canada, the U.S. and the world, International Relations Minister Jean-François Lisée said Monday...
Under the five-year plan, $60 million will be managed through the government’s Export Quebec agency to help 2,500 established companies a year, and develop 1,000 new ones.
Among the sectors targeted by the plan is Quebec’s mining industry, which alone accounts for one-quarter of all Quebec exports...
The vast majority of Quebec’s exports go to the rest of Canada and the U.S., but Lisée — who returned 10 days ago from a trade mission to China — also wants to develop other markets.
China, where he led a delegation of 75 business and institutional leaders, is one. So are Brazil, India, Russia and other European countries, as well as Mexico.
Last year, Quebec exported $63.5 billion in goods and services, down from a record high of $73.1 billion in 2006 before the global economic crisis hit.
