Request for the Removal of the Customs Duties on Corrosion Resistant Coating

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on a corrosion resistant coating specifically formulated for use in the manufacture of mirrors.  This coating is classified under tariff item No. 3208.90.90, as a paint or varnish based on synthetic polymers or chemically modified natural polymers, dispersed or dissolved in a non-aqueous medium, dutiable at 6.5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicant claims that this coating is not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in the domestic and export markets.

If you have an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, I would appreciate receiving your views by August 23, 2013.
