US Customs Seeks Brokers for Importer Self-Assessment Pilot Program

The following is excerpted from the 17 April 2013 article by the Journal of Commerce.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection will test allowing customs brokers to pre-certify importers for participation in the Importer Self-Assessment program.

The primary goal of the Broker Importer Self-Assessment Pre-Certification test is to leverage customs broker relationships to facilitate and promote importer participation in the ISA program, especially for small and medium enterprises…. Participation is voluntary, and CBP will select no more than nine licensed customs broker sole proprietorships who apply.
