The Single Window Initiative (SWI) is a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) led initiative, comprising ten Participating Government Departments and Agencies (PGA), encompassing 39 programs, working together to provide Trade Chain Partners (TCP) with a single window solution. The PGAs involved are as follows:
- Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
- Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)
- Environment Canada (EC)
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)
- Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD)
- Health Canada (HC)
- Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)
- Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)
- Transport Canada (TC)
The SWI is seeking to reduce the number of paper licences, permits, certificates and other documents (LPCO) collected and processed at-the border through the implementation of the Integrated Import Declaration (IID). The IID is a new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) message for the importation of commercial goods that:
- Incorporates CBSA import requirements;
- Includes only essential data for PGAs (including the CBSA) to make border-related decisions;
- Enables trade to use commodity identification methods that exist within their supply chains.
The CBSA is seeking input from participating TCPs on the benefits and efficiencies gained as a result of the SWI IID. This includes asking for your insight into the current process (english questionnaire - french questionnaire) and the post-SWI implementation process changes (future questionnaire) for commercial imports with PGA requirements.
Please note that while your participation is voluntary it is strongly encouraged as it will serve to support the SWI and future initiatives that aim to reduce the paper and improve efficiency in the movement of goods across the border.
Please note, CBSA has extended the final date to respond until November 21, 2014. We request that you send your responses to the SWI mailbox: [email protected]. The CSCB would appreciate it if a copy of the completed is also be sent to the CSCB at [email protected]
