Classification of Furniture Sets

On November 10, 2010, the CSCB advised members of a new D-Memorandum, 10-14-58, Tariff Classification of Furniture Sets. In simple terms, this D-memo indicates that the WCO has classified a bistro patio set, consisting of a square (76 x 76 cm) solid hardwood table and two matching wooden chairs, presented unassembled and put up in a single box for retail sale, under heading 94.03. This heading reads “Other furniture and parts thereof”.

Imports of certain blends of oils

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of blends of oils, containing 2% or less of trans fatty acids, for use in the manufacture of food products. These blends of oils are classified under heading 15.17 of the Customs Tariff as edible mixtures or preparations of animal or vegetable oils, specifically tariff item No. 1517.90.99, dutiable at 11% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is no rate available under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT).
