Use of Chapter 98 on Regulated Goods

December 15, 2020

At the November 24th CSCB Designate Day, CBSA’s SWI/IID presentation included information on the use of headings 9813, 9814, and 9815 on the IID for all regulated goods. This information is worth repeating and the Q & A that addressed this subject is reproduced below:

Q: Can HS Codes 9813, 9814 or 9815 be used for a IID release request?

R: HS Codes 9813, 9814 and 9815 cannot be used for regulated goods when submitting via the IID as these codes do not provide enough information for the Participating Government Department or Agency (PGA) to make an admissibility decision. As such, importers and brokers are required to use the appropriate classification for the IID entry. The HS code can then be amended to 9813, 9814 or 9815 prior to accounting.

HS Codes 9813, 9814 and 9815 can be used for non-regulated goods when submitting via the IID.

Questions related to this subject can be sent to the attention of Michelle Criger.
