Advisory Committee on Canada U.S. Economic Relations meets following the intention of the U.S. to impose new 50% tariffs on a number of Canadian goods

Members of the Advisory Committee on Canada–U.S. Economic Relations met to discuss the United States administration's intention to impose a new 50 per cent tariff on a number of Canadian goods.

Minister LeBlanc reiterated that Canada has put forward detailed and comprehensive proposals to resolve trade disputes and modernize CUSMA. He indicated that discussions between Canada and the United States are expected to continue and deepen over the coming weeks and underscored that Canada remains prepared to engage intensively to find solutions that benefit workers, farmers, businesses and families in both countries.

Committee members discussed how these tariffs would impact key sectors and explored how Canada should respond to advance Canada’s interests.
