Starting January 1, 2026, all facilities that produce and export pet food must be approved by South Korea’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA). To obtain approval, facilities must complete and submit specific documents, depending on their situation:
1. Facilities that have exported pet food to South Korea since January 1, 2024 must submit the following documents:
a. Quarantine Facility Approval Application
b. Checklist for Pet Food Manufacturing Facility
c. Additional Submission Documents for Document Screening Approval
2. Facilities that have not exported pet food to South Korea since January 1, 2024 must submit the following documents:
a. Quarantine Facility Approval Application
b. Checklist for Pet Food Manufacturing Facility
3. Facilities using ingredients derived from bovine protein must submit the following documents:
a. Quarantine Facility Approval Application
b. Checklist for Pet Food Manufacturing Facility
Approval process:
· Facilities in the first category may be approved based on document review. · Facilities in the second category may require an on-site audit by Korean authorities. · Facilities in the third category, regardless of their export history, must undergo an on-site audit by South Korean authorities before approval can be granted. |
Facilities wishing to begin or continue exporting pet food to South Korea must contact their local CFIA office to obtain the necessary documents and to arrange an inspection if one has not been conducted within the past year.
The Animal Import and Export Division (AIED) will be responsible for submitting approval requests to South Korean authorities.
The Guideline for preparing export certificates for the Canadian pet food industry will be updated shortly to reflect these changes.

Approbation des établissements qui exportent de la nourriture pour animaux de compagnie en Corée du Sud
À compter du 1er janvier 2026, tous les établissements qui produisent et exportent de la nourriture pour animaux de compagnie devront être approuvés par l’Agence de quarantaine des animaux et des plantes (APQA) de la Corée du Sud.
Pour obtenir l’approbation, les établissements doivent remplir et transmettre certains documents, selon leur situation :
1. Les établissements ayant exporté des aliments pour animaux de compagnie en Corée du Sud depuis le 1er janvier 2024 devront fournir les documents suivants :

2. Les établissements n’ayant pas exporté d’aliments pour animaux de compagnie en Corée du Sud depuis le 1er janvier 2024 devront fournir les documents suivants :

b. Checklist for Pet Food Manufacturing Facility
3. Les établissements utilisant des ingrédients dérivés de protéines bovines devront fournir les documents suivants :
a. Quarantine Facility Approval Application
b. Checklist for Pet Food Manufacturing Facility
Processus d’approbation :
· Les établissements de la première catégorie pourraient être approuvés sur la base de l’examen des documents. · Les établissements de la 2e catégorie pourraient nécessiter un audit sur place par les autorités coréennes. · Les établissements de la 3e catégorie, peu importe leur historique d’exportation, devront obligatoirement faire l’objet d’un audit sur place par les autorités sud-coréennes avant que l’approbation ne soit accordée. |
Les établissements qui souhaitent commencer ou continuer à exporter des aliments pour animaux de compagnie en Corée du Sud doivent communiquer avec leur bureau local de l'ACIA afin d’obtenir les documents nécessaires et organiser une inspection si celle-ci n’a pas été effectuée au cours de la dernière année.
La Division de l’importation et l’exportation des animaux (DIEA) sera responsable de transmettre la demande d’approbation aux autorités sud-coréennes.
Les Lignes directrices pour la préparation de certificats d'exportation par l'industrie Canadienne des aliments pour animaux de compagnie seront mises à jour prochainement afin de refléter ces changements.
