Australian seasonal measure related to Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB)

Further to our 23 July 2019 message on the Australian seasonal measures relating to the BMSB, Global Affairs Canada and the Australian Department of Agricultural are hosting a series of information sessions across Canada. Please see their message below.

The measures will apply to certain goods manufactured in, or shipped from, target risk countries, and/or vessels that berth at, load or trans-ship from target risk countries as of September 1, 2019, and that arrive in Australian territory by May 31, 2020 (inclusive). Vessels will be subject to heightened vessel surveillance and undergo mandatory seasonal pest inspection on arrival in Australia.

Australian BMSB Workshops to Canadian Exporters
To assist Canadian exporters, the Australian Department of Agriculture (DA) has agreed to host a series of export industry and treatment provider information sessions to discuss the measure and treatment compliance requirements.  The following is preliminary information as details are still being confirmed with DA. We plan to provide further information within the next few days.

The sessions will offer attendees an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions on the measures and treatment compliance requirements.

In addition to these workshops, on the day following each workshop, individual visits to a BMSB treatment provider(s) will be made available for interested companies.  These visits will provide compliance verification opportunities for one or two treatment providers in each location wishing to register with the Government of Australia for BMSB treatment authorization.

All treatment providers wishing to conduct BMSB treatments during the 2019/20 BMSB risk season and interested export industry participants are encouraged to attend and are welcome at any of the listed locations. The dates and sessions are as follows:
