BSF5197 - Taking cannabis (marijuana) or products containing cannabis across the border remains illegal!

While cannabis (marijuana) has recently been legalized and strictly regulated domestically in Canada, it is still illegal to cross the border with cannabis or any products containing it.

You cannot take cannabis across the border, even if it is a small quantity.
You cannot take cannabis across the border, even if you have obtained it legally.
You cannot transport cannabis across the border, even when travelling to or returning from a country or state which has legalized or decriminalized cannabis.
Declare cannabis or products containing cannabis to the CBSA when entering Canada if you happen to have it with you.
Individuals who do not declare cannabis products to the CBSA can face enforcement action, including arrest and prosecution.
Holding a medical authorization for use of cannabis in any country, including Canada, does not grant the ability to take cannabis into or out of Canada. In rare and exceptional circumstances, Health Canada may authorize an individual to bring cannabis across international borders for medical or scientific purposes on a case-by-case basis.
