Canada and Germany to work together in key industrial sectors

Canada and Germany have signed a joint declaration of intent to expand bilateral industrial cooperation in strategic sectors with a particular emphasis on boosting two‑way commerce in electric and hydrogen‑powered vehicles, batteries, and critical minerals.

By committing to deeper integration of their automotive industries, the agreement aims to increase exports of Canadian EVs and hydrogen vehicles to Germany while opening opportunities for German automakers and suppliers in Canada’s rapidly growing EV sector. The partnership also strengthens trade in critical minerals and clean‑energy technologies; areas where Canada seeks to become a preferred supplier and Germany aims to secure reliable inputs for its energy transition. Together, these measures are designed to diversify Canada’s trade relationships, attract foreign investment, and build a more resilient, future‑oriented economic and industrial base.
