Canada's Response to the 25% US Tariff on Most Canadian Goods

 

Late Saturday night, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced a 25% tariff against $155 billion dollars worth of goods from the US, in response to the 25% US tariff against Canadian goods imported into the US, which is expected to go into effect on Tuesday February 4, 2025.

  • $30 billion worth of US goods imported into Canada will be affected as of Tuesday February 4, 2025.
  • $125 billion worth of US goods imported into Canada will be affected in 21 days, to give Canadian businesses time to find alternative options.

PM Trudeau urged Canadians to buy locally-made goods and confirmed that Parliament will continue to remain prorogued.
