The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has introduced a series of regulatory changes aimed at reducing red tape and enhancing the economic resilience of Canada’s agricultural sector. These updates, part of CFIA’s Red Tape Reduction Progress Report, include revisions to the Health of Animals Regulations and the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.
Some changes include updating import requirements to give veal producers producers move flexibility to optimize the value of their products, making it easier and faster to update animal import rules to align with international standards or new science, and changing the rules for importing hatching eggs from the U.S. to a licensed Canadian hatchery so that they now require testing for Salmonella Enteritidis to now match domestic requirements and makes things fair for Canadian businesses
These reforms reflect CFIA’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high food safety standards while fostering innovation, competitiveness, and collaboration across the agricultural sector.
