The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announces that it intends to adjust hours of service at 35 land ports of entry across Canada as of 12:01 am (local time) on January 6, 2025.

Today’s announcement, determined in collaboration with the United States, will enhance overall security for both countries. It will allow the CBSA to use its resources more efficiently by deploying officers at busier ports of entry. This will support the CBSA’s ability to process travellers and goods as well as to manage enforcement activities.

The U.S. is also adjusting service hours at many of its ports of entry. This alignment will also allow both countries to return inadmissible travellers and goods to the other country, which is more difficult when one side of the border is closed while the other remains open.

These adjustments are based on an analysis of operational pressures, peak periods, and services required at the ports of entry, to minimize the impacts on border communities. Almost all of these ports of entry are processing an average of two or less cars or commercial trucks per hour during the hours that will no longer be in operation, and travellers have an alternative border crossing option within a 100 km radius.

L'ASFC modifie les heures de service aux points d'entrée terrestres dans tout le Canada

L'Agence des services frontaliers du Canada (ASFC) annonce qu'elle a l'intention de modifier les heures de service dans 35 points d'entrée terrestres au Canada, à compter de 0 h 01 (heure local) le 6 janvier 2025.

L'annonce faite aujourd'hui, en collaboration avec les États-Unis, renforcera la sécurité globale des deux pays. Cela permettra à l'AFSC d'utiliser ses ressources de manière plus efficace en déployant des agents dans les points d'entrée les plus fréquentés. Cela renforcera la capacité de l’AFSC à traiter les voyageurs et les marchandises, ainsi qu'à gérer les activités de contrôle.

Les États-Unis adaptent également les heures de service dans un grand nombre de leurs points d'entrée. Cet alignement permettra également aux deux pays de renvoyer les voyageurs et les marchandises interdits de territoire vers l'autre pays, ce qui est plus difficile lorsqu'un côté de la frontière est fermé alors que l'autre reste ouvert.

Ces ajustements sont basés sur une analyse des pressions opérationnelles, des périodes de pointe et des services requis aux points d'entrée, afin de minimiser les impacts sur les communautés frontalières. Presque tous ces points d'entrée traitent en moyenne deux voitures ou camions commerciaux ou moins par heure pendant les heures où ils ne seront plus opérationnels, et les voyageurs disposent d'une autre option de passage de la frontière dans un rayon de 100 km.
