CBSA Message (TCC18-095) – Frequently asked questions

Clients Affected: All clients that transmit their trade data using EDI.

To ensure that Technical Commercial Client Unit (TCCU) officers are available for the resolution of urgent, technical problems, please consult the following frequently asked questions and their respective answers. You might find your answer among the following:

Why haven't I received a declaration accepted message yet?

Since March 2017, the declaration accepted notice is only sent when both the release request and the ACI cargo are on file. Customs brokers will not receive the declaration accepted notice if the ACI cargo has not been reported by the carrier or the freight forwarder.

Check with the other trade chain partners to confirm that all required documents have been accepted by the CBSA.

Could you check to see if the RMD corrector has been processed by the port?

If you are seeking information regarding a paper B3, cash entry or any paper release service option (i.e., ACROSS service options 117, 174, 331) please contact the CBSA office where the request was submitted.  Similarly, any follow up questions on a paper RMD correction should be directed to the CBSA office where the RMD correction was submitted.

Duplicate Cargo Control Numbers

If you receive a reject message on your release transaction for “invalid status of request/cargo control number” or “ccn in history” (error code 464 and T36) there is no need to contact the TCCU hotline during the day or after business hours. These reject messages mean the cargo control number (CCN) has been used previously. In order to correct the reject, a new cargo control number is required from the carrier.

These are straightforward reject messages and no assistance is required from the TCCU to resolve this.

If you need to know where this cargo control was used, you may contact the carrier. Alternatively, you or the carrier may transmit a status query through the Release Notification System (RNS) which can provide this information.   For more information on the status query function, please consult the RNS Electronic Commerce Clients Requirements Document (ECCRD).  If needed, you may request a copy of the RNS ECCRD by email at [email protected].

W80 reject code

If you receive reject code W80 for Release cannot be related to a consolidated cargo or House bill this mean the cargo control number (CCN) quoted on your release entry is either a consolidated cargo or a consolidated House Bill.  In order to correct the reject, you must contact the carrier and confirm with them if the CCN is consolidated.  If it is consolidated, you will need to obtain a new CCN and correct your transaction with the proper CCN.   If it is not consolidated, the carrier may contact the TCCU hotline to follow up if necessary.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reject message

If you receive a reject message on your release transaction for error code 537 and the description of the reject message begins with CFIA; please do not contact the TCCU hotline for assistance.  This reject message was created by CFIA therefore if you need assistance in troubleshooting the reject, please contact the National Import Service Central (NISC) at 1-800-835-4486 or 1-905-795-7834.
