CBSA seizes hundreds of litres of precursor chemicals from China used to produce fentanyl

On October 30, 2025, Canadian authorities announced the seizure of 4,300 litres of illicit drug precursor chemicals at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility in Delta, B.C. The CBSA and RCMP examined two marine containers from China, destined for Calgary, on May 13 and 15, 2025. Flagged by CBSA intelligence, the containers held 60 jugs and 20 drums containing:
•     3,600L of 1,4 Butanediol (used to produce GHB, the “date-rape drug”)
•     500L of Propionyl Chloride (a fentanyl precursor)
•     200L of Gamma butyrolactone (GBL)
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal drug supply chain.
