CBSA seizes over $2.2 million in contraband cigarettes

On September 15, Canadian Border Services Officers at the Burnaby Container Examination Facility intercepted a shipment from China falsely declared as electric fans. Acting on intelligence from U.S. and Chinese law enforcement, they discovered 216 boxes containing nearly 20,000 cartons—about 4 million cigarettes. The seized goods were valued at over $2.2 million, with an estimated $2.5 million in evaded duties and taxes.
