CN and Union Ratify New Agreement

On February 14, 2025, the Canadian National Railway Company (CN) ratified a new four-year tentative collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) the union representing approximately 750 Signals and Communications employees in Canada. This follows the four-year collective agreement ratified with Unifor on December 22, 2024 which represents approximately 3,300 employees at CN in Canada, in mechanical, clerical, and intermodal functions.

In March 2025, mediation meetings will begin between CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) union to decide the terms of their next collective agreement. TCRC represents approximately 6,000 conductors, conductor trainees, yard coordinators and locomotive engineers across CN’s network in Canada. As per the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), the current collective agreement will remain in place until there is a new agreement, avoiding a potential strike or lockout.
