Establishing the Gordie Howe International Bridge as a Port of Entry in Detroit, MI

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has established the Gordie Howe International Bridge border crossing as a Class A port of entry for immigration purposes and as part of the port of Detroit for customs purposes, effective March 2, 2026.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is the newest connection between Detroit and Windsor, between the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

CBSA has been preparing for the opening since 2025. Sydney Kale, CBSA District Director for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, says they're very excited for the official opening of the bridge.

"We're currently occupying the main building that has the general office - that's where travellers or immigration referrals would come in to speak with an officer. We also have occupied all of the main offices of the building in terms of those of us that have some managerial and administrative responsibilities here."

The bridge is scheduled to open in early 2026.
